Thurso Players’ Privacy Policy

Who we are

Thurso Players are a drama club based at The Mill Theatre, Thurso, Caithness in the Far North of Scotland, a registered Scottish Charity (No. SCO7865). The club produces several shows a year covering a range of styles including drama, musicals, revue, pantomime and comedies. The club has thriving adult, youth and junior sections. In addition to a busy amateur programme, the club has professional touring companies visiting The Mill Theatre throughout the year.

To keep the club running smoothly we occasionally need to take details from you. We value your data, keep it secure, and the following privacy policy gives details on what data we collect, how we use it and why we collect it.

Types of data we collect

Website Cookies

Cookies are small pieces of data, stored in text files on your computer or other device when websites are loaded in a browser. They are used, for example, to enhance your user experience, to allow for social media sharing and to allow analytics to help us to see how well our website is performing. We may use the third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of website visitor behaviour patterns.

You may restrict the use of cookies, or completely prevent them from being set, by using your web browser’s cookie settings.

Mailing Lists

As part of the registration process for our monthly e-newsletter, we collect personal information, such as your email address. We use that information to keep you informed of what is happening with Thurso Players, including upcoming shows and auditions; to contact you if we need to obtain or provide additional information; to check that our records are correct and to check every now and then that you’re happy and satisfied. We don’t rent or trade email lists with other organisations and businesses, your information is for Thurso Players’ use only.

To deliver our newsletter we use a third-party provider, MailChimp. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice. You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time of the day or night by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing our Publicity Officer, Sara Donaldson.

We also occasionally send out emails to the membership via our Secretary (Wendy Newton) or our Membership Secretary (Claire Hughes) using the email address on your membership form.  If you prefer not to be contacted you can let us know by contacting us directly.

Ticketing Data

When you purchase tickets to one of our shows, or a professional show held at The Mill Theatre, you may be asked to supply us with information such as name, address or email address. This is to allow us to contact you should a show, for any reason, be cancelled or postponed. Please be assured that this information is not shared without your consent and is not kept beyond the time of the show.

Membership Details

As a member of Thurso Players we will collect certain data from you to allow for the smooth running of the club. This includes name, address, email address and telephone number. To allow for a safe environment we also ask for date of birth and selected medical information (such as allergies or special needs requirements) for junior members. We respect our members’ information and all details are kept secure and confidential, not shared with others and only used on a ‘need to know’ basis.

Third Parties

We may share anonymised data with touring companies and grants councils, when needed. Occasionally professional touring companies, and those we seek funding from, ask for information that breaks down audiences and membership into group types. This is used for analysis in development programmes, to help improve audience and members’ experiences and to help funding organisations to understand the impact of their public or private investment.

Any information shared will in no way identify individuals, and personal information is never shared outside of Thurso Players.

Access to your personal information

You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. Email your request to our Secretary (Wendy Newton) or our Membership Secretary (Claire Hughes)
